And we never talk anymore
the silence grows until there are miles between us
uncross-able paths that twist and turn
journeys that are cut off by the angry twist of the ocean
or the solemn stubbornness of the forest.

And I am left, digging my toes in the warm sand along the lost seashore,
trying to be a guiding lighthouse to your wandering ship,

but you will never come back, (they never come back)

She's continually
slipping
away
from
me.

She floats
silently
ghost-like
in our apartment.

Her dimming eyes
rarely leaving
the bay window
as she watches
the world
Outside.

Yet,
she won't join,
preferring
to flit along
the periphery
as a mere apparition.

Occasionally,
she'll meet my gaze,
begging,
longing,
wanting
me
to
let
her
go,
to
let
her
fade
away
from
me.

Another train comes tomorrow.
Another plane leaves later today.
But I won't always be here.

You can leave with the setting sun.
You can leave when the wind blows.
But I won't always be here.

You can stay here,
warm my hands with your own,
because I won't always be here.

You can crawl back under the blankets,
stay here safe and warm.
Because I won't always be here.

We can share another nutritious meal,
Spend another breakfast safe in our kitchen corner.
Because I won't always be here.

We can run wildly through the woods,
make love among the wildflowers.
Because I won't always be here.

Or I can pretend to be asleep in my bed,
secretly watching you dress, knowing
You won't always be here.

After you leave, I'll make my pot of coffee,
warm my own hands,
Because I always knew...

You wouldn't be here.

The Unknown

Stars dimming,
Fading from sight
Leaving me,
Blinded,
Alone in the dark,
Running
From the unknown

A Non-Entity

The yellow bus whistles
past me
once more,
confirming my fears.
I truly am
invisible,
A non-entity.
